About Light & Found

Light & Found Photography was founded in 2016 with a mission to offer authentic photography that reflects the true Love surrounding the moments of celebration in our lives. By offering a queer lens to your Love, we aim to help our clients feel truly seen. Our only agenda is to offer an accurate reflection of the Love in the room.

Wherever there is a celebration of Love, whether it be a wedding or a celebration of Life, we show up with our full selves to hold space and capture the feeling in the room. Weddings are our bread and butter, and we’re so honored to join you on your big day, to celebrate not only the love between a couple, but also the love that weaves a community together.

We’re honored to be an additional witness to the Love in the room and aim to capture these memories however they show up; in your smile as you gaze at your beloved, in the thoughtful details you’ve poured over for months, in the faces of your family and friends who’ve gathered to witness and celebrate Life with you. Thank you for allowing us in.

Founded by Sam Hopwood, we’ve recently expanded to add two more incredible photographers, Fennel and Katy. Between the three of us, we’ve shot over 100 weddings from the East Coast to the West Coast and through parts of Europe. We’re always down to travel and would love to chat with you about your vision for your wedding.

Meet the Photographers

Sam Hopwood

The Founder

Sam (they/them) is a nonbinary, queer photographer who picked up a camera at age 13. They learned film photography first, in the tradition of their grandfather, Poppy, who was a professional photographer through the 80’s-early 2000’s. Their style focuses primarily on candids and moments of unbridled joy.

Sam has a healthy obsession with light and can be found stopping mid-stride on the sidewalks of Red Hook to reach for their Canon AE-1. They like to capture the way the light is hitting a wall, a fire hydrant, a bird, a piece of garbage, suddenly rendering it art. Sam is a cat-person, a coffee-addict (please, for the sake of all things holy, consider serving coffee with dessert, thank you in advance) and former professional bread baker. They are a paintera screenwriter and creative wanderer by choice.

Fennel Harper

Fennel Harper (they/them) is a Brooklyn based, non-binary photographer with a passion for story telling. The heart of their work lies in the idea that every love is extraordinary, and that magic comes naturally. They want to make sure your day feels dreamy and fun, and that your photos take you right back to that feeling. A fine-arts educated photographer, Fennel started out photographing weddings for friends and quickly fell in love with capturing love- from the raw and candid to the aesthetic posed image, they want to hype you up and make you feel beautiful. When they’re not photographing you can find Fennel watching the latest thriller flick, getting a new tattoo or hanging out with their partner and three cats, Potato, Pickle and Pesto.

Katy Andrascik

Katy was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, but has called New York City her home for the last 11 years. She came to the city to study photography at the School of Visual Arts, graduated with her BFA, and has been working as a photographer ever since. When she’s not taking photos she’s either out hiking (usually with a camera), training jiu jitsu, or snuggling her two cats and newly adopted dog. Her adventurous soul and love for all beings is actually what drew her to photographing weddings. As a newlywed herself, Katy feels that the love between two people starting their journey together is a magical moment, one that should be celebrated and cherished. Her goal is to make sure every couple can look back at the photos from their wedding day and feel the same amount of love and joy they shared together on that day.
